They're probably anticipating some EWR 320 F/O's bidding up or out. Another possibility is that they're for upcoming new hire classes and, per the the contract, they have to be open for bid before going to new hires.

I'll take that bet and I'll probably lose. So let's make it at the Western Sizzlin. Fine establishment. It's just a WAG, but I'm thinking the plug might go to the 5800-6000 range. It's not much of a raise from the Guppy and the flying is gonna involve long all nighters with no augment. We shall see.
Unless a lot of guys chicken out!

Yep. I was wrong again. Shocking! It's only the 1st snapshot, but who knew 20% of the 756 CA awards would go to down bidding 78/77 Captains? That's about a 5K per month hit @ 80 hours!! And about 40% of the 756 CA awardees on this snapshot can hold 777 Captain ON THIS BID. WOW. The 737 backfills are senior out, senior in. No change. Just glad I was able to slide in 2 years ago, because I dang sure couldn't get in now!!
NEVER underestimate the seniority in Denver. Digging in for the long haul...

I guess I'm going to be sucking yellow jello through a straw before I get my left seat bid in DEN!

Not that surprising.. When I was on the 777 in SFO, about half of the captains commuted from DEN and many would have two leg commutes to get home. That gets old really quick. There's an intrinsic value to not having to commute on an airplane to work and we're seeing it manifested in the bidding.

I'm surprised you saw that too! Because there were no widebody CA's who took an FO bid in DEN. Not even one.
