Default Mentorship/ No No's as a United pilot

1. Your leg and studying the circuit breaker panel unannounced while approaching weather.

2. Initiating the before takeoff checklist while passing B8 on your way to the south port. Yes, those rampies would never cut you off.

3. Reaching for the auto brake selector on the captain's leg and select brakes 3 for a 12000 ft runway. C'mon man!

Certainly one can add to the list.

Not volunteering to take the fat one.

Eating in the bunk.

I'm sure there are more.

Last leg, red eye, 20 minutes early, gate open and still flies CI 0.

That's after he shut the apu off to enhance your experience in the microwave with zero air circulation.

Don't drop an F bomb on any recorded line.

Airbus pilots, if you use your own headset, please plug the minitel back in when you get off the plane. 99% of Airbus pilots use the minitel. Plug it back in. I'll say it again in case you missed it. Plug it back in. Thank you.

I'll take the other side of that . . .

I'm L-UAL but have been in EWR for the last 4 years so have adopted many L-CAL habits. The one habit and change I enjoy the most is using my own headset which over 90% of EWR pilots have (at least on the 777 and I think the 737). So . . . please leave the minitel unplugged or better yet buy your own headset and stop sharing coodies with your fellow aviators and join the ever so pleasant world of soft, noise cancelling, and vastly superior personal headsets. If you are still using an "ear dick" that is unbelievably gross.

I like this one:

Telex Airman ANR 850

and no it's not cheap, but given the time you spend at work and the vastly improved comfort and sound, I find it was worth every penny and then some.

Sometimes the "old way" isn't the "best way".

Old Way: company supplied minitel
New Way: buy your own headset

Hauling ass on a short taxi to the runway while I'm drowning in printer a paper trying to run the myriad of before takeoff checklist items as we're lining up on the runway.

Hearing each legacy side b**** about the other side each trip and try to get post merger hires to take their position.

+1

I agree with Sunvox, buy your own headset and leave the mintel unplugged.
