Default 1200 new hires in 2018??

This was in the last MEC update:

"Chairman Captain Todd Insler

Captain Insler opened the July MEC Meeting Monday morning, welcoming MEC members and reporting on several highlights. Though much has happened since the April MEC meeting that has placed the Company in a negative light, United's core business foundation remains strong and momentum positive. Representatives from Air Canada Pilots Association joined the meeting on Wednesday to meet with the MEC and observe ALPA conducting business of the pilots. Captain Insler reminded the MEC of the importance of safety and security inflight and during layovers.

Plans remain in place to hire 40 additional pilots through the end of the year, with 1200 pilots scheduled to be hired in 2018."

So, is that 40 IN ADDITION to the 180 already announced when classes resume in the fall? Or from 180 DOWN to 40?

Going on historical trends, that means probably 7-800.

Even at 800, taking out 3 months for summer slowdown, that's ~88 per month.

Has there been a month yet to date where that many were put though in a single month?

~400 retirements, is a net gain of 400 gonna cut it?

The Death Star (TK) isn't supposed to be fully operational till April '18. I'd agree, not gonna happen

It'll be interesting to first see how many instructors they'll hire and how quickly they wrap up the FTC.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing"

Actually, I PERSONALLY don't. Just seemed like an appropriate quote

Anyone else notice how the salt and pepper shakers in Polaris first class (and I presume business class, I wouldn't know, I don't like to mingle with the commoners in biz) look like little Death Stars?

Fall of 2018 also starts the mandatory furlough recalls. That will affect the hiring numbers.
