Default Jury Duty

I spoke to the pilot service center about my jury summons, and the forwarded it on to the futures desk, who took me off my trip the conflicted with the initial report requirements.

Now, I have to go back later this week to sit on a jury. Depending on how long the trial lasts, it may conflict with my next trip, but I won't actually know until the trial starts. If I wait til I know for sure, it may be fairly short notice for them to cover my trip. Should I wait til last minute, or just tell them it does?

Also, do I have to provide proof I was at jury duty when it's over?

Thanks.

You will have to provide proof but it's not hard to get. That being said, if it's short notice so be it - no worries. If you just "say" you have a jury duty conflict and get caught in a lie it would be worse for you for sure.

Just like when you are sick you are sick - even if it's the 10th time this calendar year. There is no way the company would be successful in coming after you. Not saying they won't try but FARs and ALPA backing you up - not an issue.

The response from the Pilot Service Center indicates that any further absences other than the initial one will be handled by Crew Scheduling and initiated by the Pilot. Proof is required but if you are never called in, you need only notify the PSC and tell them as much. If you are called in the court will provide a Certification of Court Attendance that you will submit to the PSC.

In any event you will be paid in full for any trips missed due to Jury Duty per the CBA.

I went through the EWR chief pilots office, no problems at all, I ended up being released for every day of duty, was a paid vacation . Send the cpo an email ahead of time.

Let's say you have a trip that starts on a Friday afternoon, and Friday is your last day on call for jury duty...

Since most jury duty will notify you the night before if you're to come in or not, will the company hold off until Thursday night on dropping your trip?

And if you're not called in on Friday, will you have to fly the trip?
