They can award TDY in a vacation month if there aren't enough non-vacation bidders (8-G-3-b).

They can also award more TDY slots than listed. So always bid if you want it. It's a great deal.

Not a rental car, but transport to and from the TDY hotel is. As many trips as you want to book. You just call the hotel desk to book the days you are staying at the TDY hotel, and the pickup times you want.

But be prepared for transport to fail every time. I went to SFO and stayed at the downtown Union Square Hilton. I took Uber more often than company provided transport because no one was there at pickup time. Hotel desk and/or the contracted service provider were reliable less than 50% of the time.

Same issue happened to me (SFO of course). The contracted transportation company subbed out the work most of the time and I had drivers insisting they were there to get me, but UAL on the phone telling me a completely different story. Total pain in the rear. Never again. That being said, all the per diem was nice and the required spreadsheet was user friendly.

I didn't say it worked.... Going home is one thing, but going to work? I get there when the UAL provided transportation gets me there. If it doesn't show, don't stress about it.

I don’t believe the contract requires reimbursement for alternate transportation to the airport, only to the hotel.

Correct. You are possibly on your own dollar from the hotel to the airport. That's why I say, I get there when the UAL transport gets me there...

For someone who lives in domicile and is a line holder, it seems like TDY isn't that good of a deal. You get the ~$750 of pay (apparently even if you come home between trips), but that's about the only benefit I'm seeing.

Is that a fair assessment?
