I’m not Guam based but I’m told you can condense your schedule to be on for two weeks, off for two weeks

No one currently flies nonstop between Guam and Singapore so you’d be looking at a double leg, international commute.

Be pretty tough now. They're are no direct flight from Singapore and with the permanent discontinuation of the HKG-GUM flight you're basically left with two options. You can go through MNL or NRT but either way it's a double leg commute.

Thank you! Well this is covid. Maybe more routes in the future as Asia market expand?

Lastly, what's the command time looking like? And why are there some very senior guys out there?

Doubt you will see GUM-HKG return for at least another year. Command time is lengthy. Guys who have been out there for 10 years+ are finally upgrading. Senior guys are there cause a lot live there and are happy making captain pay plus 3K for great QOL.

Thank you for such a prompt reply!
Yeah I guess the extra money goes a long way, but that again having young kids in Guam would mean crappy free schools or expensive private schools.
Do most FOs there choose to stick till command or just for a few year stint and relocate back to the mainland? Also, do most of them commute around Asia or purely enjoy the island life? And is the hub ever expand more flights and routes surely command time will decrease?

How long has the 3K remained 3K? I remember 10 years ago it was about $1K+ so I assume with inflation and with time to stay competitive it might increase in the future?

Can't edit previous 2nd post but I meant, should the Guam hub expand routes and increase flights, that would surely mean some sort of expansion with more pilots on base and quicker upgrade time in the future?

Many homeschool their kids which gives them the flexibility to travel, etc. That's what we did. Some just come out for a few years and leave but since the base has shrunk so much that I'd say most that are there intend on being there for a while. The exception may be the lower 50% on the FO side.
The HKG-GUM route was cancelled pre COVID and I was told the reason was is they wanted to use the slot for a more profitable route from the mainland so it may never come back. UAL has decided to codeshare many of the routes we did, like SIN, SGN and HKG out of NRT.

The FBA was $1100 and went to $3k on the last contract. It's a big sticking point at the MEC level so I'd be shocked if it went up again. It is taxed so keep that in mind and is not used in any profit sharing calculations.

Thank you again for all the details!! Really appreciate it. Last curiosity, is it easy for a new hire to request for a Guam base? I assume not everyone wants to live outside of the U.S. for various reasons.
