You are right! I have given buddy passes once 30 years ago. Never again! It sounds like UA is the same as AA.

The ladies wearing leggings were not paying passengers, they were non revs. The negative story on them being denied boarding went viral before the facts were known--that there's a different dress code for non-revs. One can only imagine waking up to see on the national news two people you gave buddy passes to dragging United through another PR disaster, followed by a nice phone call from someone up the chain.

So yes, I do see the title of the thread has the word "employee" in it.
However to be clear UA pass travel benefits are quite different between "active employee" and "retired employee".
When you retire from UA now (post merger) they throw you under the bus and don't walk away, they stick around to enjoy the show.
"Retired employees" get NO buddy passes; get NO extended family buddy passes AND you watch them as they take away a day of seniority for each day you're a "retired employee". (They also stripped us of our medical plans and half our retirement). They're so good to us; it's really wonderful being a "retired employee"
