Non-rev loads for LAX-HNL for OALs

Be careful about seats sold vs seats assigned. Seats sold always exceed seats assigned until the door is closed. For instance, on the United app (and website), UA1158 on 9 June (2 weeks from today) shows 60 coach seats available yet employeeRes shows only 44 seats available. That's because employeeRes reflects seats sold while the seat map shows seats assigned. Many don't select a seat until prompted 24 hours prior, and some even wait until they get to the airport, so the seat map will not accurately reflect how many tickets have been sold, and thereby how full the flight is. Check employeeRes to see how full the flights are and to monitor a specific flight as the date approaches.
However, I've done five different hub to hub commutes. So that naturally means that the O&D traffic/business travelers frequently change flights or no-show. As well the connecting traffic mis connects.
On those commutes, the app was far more accurate than what SkyNet/COair/EMPRES/SuckingTogether showed. It was often times in negative numbers, the night before the commute as well during my sprint/dash across the airport to my commute's gate.
Meanwhile the app is showing a whole slew white/blue squares and theres a whole slew of us non-revs standing around getting those seats.
Placing our bets on the blue/white squares in the Econ+/SuckLine roulette/crap game lottery as they burn through all the non revs that are no show as well........
YMMV.........

"Fee Waived SA9W." It should be the bottom choice you have when listing yourself. This is not an option for your dependents. Its only use is to get a nonrev seat in F without paying any fees and not using a vacation pass.
I will use it on very rare occasions where there are a lot of F seats open on a domestic flight and very few listed/upgrades on the priority list. And I don't feel like burning a vacation pass. Which is now pretty much never, because I've got too many vacation passes left.

It seems like ALL the nonrevs show up in HNL and the flights are arranged so everyone who doesn't get on the first on to say EWR heads to the ORD flight and then it's a rolling situation as people try to catch a ride to anywhere on the mainland. The last flight leaving the island ends up with 100+ NRSA sometimes.

Same logic for Seattle. How can there always be more people leaving than arriving. Mathematically, it doesn't make any sense. The population is always growing there. Best I can figure is they arrive by ground, get rich, and leave by air.

Also remember to look at the other islands, sometimes a trip with Hawaiian on ZED to say Hilo , and then on us across the Pacific can get you out easier than spending hours/days waiting for a direct flight.
When it comes to getting home, that is the old joke (that isn't really a joke), bring your passports, because sometimes the fastest way home is via NRT!!

It's reversed in Las Vegas. People fly in, get poor, and leave by bus.

I've been non reving this route for well over 30 years.
I have often said; I don't understand how the islands are not empty at this point.
There are always more coming than going, what is that?
Rod Serling stuff I know.
Seriously, I would not try to go to Hi anytime during summer vacation.
Especially not with a child. Just a wife, maybe if she's the VERY patient and understanding kind.
But no, it's not a good idea.
