For many that's first choice. I've been flying the 737 since I got here and will retire on it. They've never furloughed a pilot. It's not a military-style commitment of 5 years. Leave anytime if the grass is greener elsewhere. Plenty of pilots have gone from one major to another for various reasons.

You bet. Got interviewed and a CJO at my Long time first choice. "Expect a class date after the holidays."Turned down another job. Holidays came and went and so did a model of one of their fleet. Do not pass go, do not collect a new ID. Back to the grind and got a call from a United 5 months later. 2 years later first choice called and I stayed put. Maybe good maybe a bad idea, I will let you know in 15 years. But point is until you are in class with an ID around your neck, keep interviewing.

But I agree about starting at the first job you get -then go to the job you want.

Hey, that's what they said at Delta for 67 years from 1929-1996.
No company furloughed until it's management decided it was necessary.
Fact
PS: I actually hope that NO airline has a need to ever furlough again, but reality is that some will.

Sherp,
You're probably military, which inherently breeds some loyalty into you that you can rest assured will not be reciprocated by any corporation. If you have to quit in the middle of training to accept a start date at another company, it happens, it's understood in the industry, and only you know what's best for you/your family.
Probably only situation I'd feel hesitant for switching is I believe at FEDEX if you use an employees silver bullet to get interviewed, they have to wait something like 10 years to reuse their bullet, so in that situation I'd at least make sure the employee know that your possibly on the fence before accepting their bullet.
Best of luck.
