Think that’s why they ended that nonsensical program after its first try. Heard 3 Pilots were hired, 1 was satisfactory the other 2 not so much and each one required extra training.

Why on earth we’d even go there is beyond me but I guess L-UAL did the same thing back in the mid-nineties.

I’m sure of it! Probably does a great job of setting up FMC, and reading checklists though. So there’s that.

You need to back up that timeline about 7 years for the hiring practices you're referring to. They are completely different situations. I have my ideas about the current situation and think United is looking far into the future regarding pilot needs and training.

The last time hired low time pilots on their own volition would be the Tracy Aces of the 40's.

Thought that British idiot on the other forum was hired straight into UAL from a CFI position during the mid-nineties?

So is the program officially done with and considered a “fail” or are they still sending “0 hour Turbine” Flight instructors straight to the right seat?

You couldn’t be more wrong on either account.

I understand the challenges of going from 0 turbine time to a complex airliner, but how is the UA program any different to any regional? They take 1500hr (or less) flight instructors and put them in jets just as complex and make them do 5 legs in and out of ORD during t-storms. Why can't United do it?

Would appreciate info contradicting it as that’s what I’m hearing out on the line.

United has always mixed in low time low experience in the hiring process over the years. Seems to work out most of the time. I am not saying I agree with it.

In the mid-1960's, UAL had a program "PAAP", Pilot Advanced Acceptance Program. Private pilot or less. Had to get commercial rating before training actually started.
