I appreciate you pointing out what you've seen lately. Good to know.

I flew with a new FO who told me his story. He was a newhire FO at another regional very recently. Extremely low time. Had never upgraded. Not only was he on the very low side of flight time, but he was on the low side on maturity as well.

I have friends involved in DAL and AA hiring processes. They are somewhat thankful that UAL is ignoring highly qualified candidates.

You have to get to selected to get into the HR exercise, the selection process is goofy, just goofy.

You aren't wrong, but here's the deal. ALPA did this. No way did anyone ever envision or intend for peeps to spend 10 plus years at a regional. I am sure if I spent 10 years at a regional my attitude would not be that gleeful. Holding tight on Scope helps everyone in this profession.

How about send them to a regional for 2 years. That big "classroom in the sky" would be perfect for them. After I was done instructing I flew 135 freight. That got me to 121 regionals/commuters. We need a logical career path. It will help with the maturation process as well as the understanding of the operational issues. CFI in a Bonanza to a B 757 is not ideal at all. Not for anyone. Not the Captains and most assuredly not ideal for the applicant/new hire.

So other than his maturity how was he as a pilot? Where discussing ability so I think it’ll be a great example.

I'm sorry you had to go to the regionals life can be unfair I guess. I had to go too. Still doesn't change the fact that most guys CFI until they have enough hours to go to a part 121 program. What's the difference if it's United or Skywest. They have to pass a sim and check ride just like everyone else. If they can pass then who gives. If the Captain becomes incompacitated like everyone if fearful of, I'm sure they could land the plane like any if us. I say good for them and good on United for thinking ahead.

Haven't flown with many half-wingers this year, but about 50% of them had just retired from the military.

Thanks to the dark decade, the averages of experience are higher than pre 9/11.

TPIC average is about 1/3-1/2 more and TT about 30% more.
