Default UA20 ticket w/ a bike?

Has anyone used a UA20 ticket when traveling with a bike? I suppose the same would be true for golf clubs or any other oversized checked luggage.

Assuming that said oversized luggage isn't wearing leggings, are there any problems or extra fees? Thanks!

Not sure about a bike, but I non-rev and use UA20s with skis a couple times each winter without paying any extra fees.

Looking at united dot com it would appear that bikes are free unless over 50lbs....

(Considering that the employee limit is 70lbs domestically I wonder if that would apply here.....)

You can non-rev without paying for a bike box/bag, even express flights. Don't know about UA20, but I'd make sure first because bikes are on the extreme end of baggage fees. Around $200. Ridiculous when they can be broken down to normal bag size. Some bags like Hen House and Pika even try to disguise them somewhat but agents always seem to know.

Golf clubs and skis are fine, non-rev or UA20. No issues at all.

You will be charged for a bike if it displaces freight. If it does, the fee is close to $200. And likely on a somewhat full flight, your bike will displace freight. So be ready to pay it.
