Three reasons in order of importance

1) corporate/government contracts (biggest revenue)

2) frequent flyer program benefits and perks (middle revenue)

3) price (least revenue)

Air France is not part of the Star Alliance, we connect people through Frankfurt on Lusthansa why do Paris.....

I haven't checked to verify that statement but Frankfurt is probably well ahead of Paris for connecting traffic. And if we're talking globally, there have to be other airports that would beat Paris for connection/transfer points.

The airports in Europe with the most connections are:

Istanbul
Frankfurt
London

in that order ....

And Turkish is Star Alliance as is Lusthansa...
