At last count DAL flew 5 mainline jets VPS-ATL. I've ridden a 757 into PNS. Meanwhile we fly 2 worn out 50 seat jungle jets a day from IAH, that are in embarrassing condition at best.

Heard from a credible source that Oscar told a crew that expansion into the southeast would take multiple years for development as well as a significant investment, and that he does not want to be the one to pull the trigger.
Meanwhile, Kirby recently explained to Wall Street that the reason for United's annual soft first quarter performance is due to the lack of a southeastern hub that our competitors currently have.... (MIA,ATL)....
The last leadership group downsized to profitability and the new leadership growth sees the soft areas but is reluctant to expand because capacity growth is an ugly term on Wall Street....

IAH - VPS (2-3 flights daily)
IAH - ECP (2-3 flights daily)
All are on small crappy 50 seat ERJ-145's.
No wonder DAL dominates the Gulf Coast and more importantly the SE.

I think you are (as this is an airline blog) confusing Houston with the popular pilot burbs that surround Houston when making that blanket statement. Central Houston (Rice University area/River Oaks/Tanglewood etc) residents are some of the most progressive/educated/sophisticated In the State of Texas (I know, that doesn't say much given the reputation....) who pay some of the highest property taxes in the country. Please don't confuse Houstonians with the folks "making America great again"(obviously I'm painting with a broad brush here as well) that unfortunately surround us.

So why aren't the French flocking to Houston via CDG since it's obviously some cultural Mecca? There must be some reason we don't have daily service.
Air France operates one non-stop a day, no other airlines operate direct.

Not true, I'm having a great time on the Paris layovers. My experience is the French are very friendly and helpful.
What I have found to be true is that those who act like an "ugly American" are usually treated like one.
