In other news… we have reserve coverage in every single base on the CA and FO side thru the rest of the month. 21 UA / 11 AA airplanes on property. Sounds like the OE backlog is gradually subsiding, allowing more upgrades and new hires to hit the line faster. Bumped into a mgmt guy at the STC the other day and it sounds like the next few UA birds will be going to Denver, and the base size is still planned to be ~18 airplanes. Upgrades and transfers should be picking back up again soon.

Hopefully with some additional flying over the coming months, schedules out there will improve drastically, sounds like the biggest thing for improving schedules throughout the AA system is an RDU base, allowing for a few more ways to get into the AA shuffle.

Keep in mind the point of this TA is to hire and retain pilots, and a signing bonus is normal for a TA. So it wouldn't surprise me to see us get some kind of retention bonus every year to keep guys from hopping to other regional airlines that are hiring street captains with a big bonus.

They'd need to pony up an impressive sum to keep people from leaving for majors or LCCs. Frankly, I doubt they have the will to do that.

I think they are more worried about CQFOs and FOs jumping to other regionals that will have quick upgrades, large bonuses, and some kind of path to mainline.

Doesn't matter. I highly doubt this will come with any substantial "bonus."

We'll see what it is, but as this shortage of pilots at the regionals becomes more acute later this year and next year, regionals are going to try and poach each others pilots through bonuses and quick upgrades. Which will force management to offer incentives for pilots to stay and not make lateral jumps to other airlines. It is a pilots market out there for now, and hopefully we will all benefit for it.

The flow has a perceived value to a guy shopping around for an employer. With all else being equal how will an airline like TSA compete with a wholly owned subsidiary that can provide that?

Pay rates, bonuses, and better contract.

Plus sooner or later United is going to have to come up with some kind of path for pilots at its affiliated carriers. If not they will struggle to hire against the regionals that have a path to mainline. What is going on at Eagle, PSA, Endeavor, and Piedmont is the wave of the future.

FWIW, I'm interviewing at a WO with flow and at TSA. FlyingKat is correct in that I would potentially choose TSA over the WO if working there means I can pay bills and eat out every once in awhile.

While signing bonuses are quite common for many TAs, it is usually code for retro pay. Signing bonuses are usually 1/10 of what a pilot is usually owed for being stuck in negotiations for 5+ years.
