PICK UP THE PHONE. Southwest is being dispatched with alternates they don't need. Everyone is. You know what you do? Get off your a**, stop the fuelers, and make a phone call.
Do you seriously think that we are the only airline in the entire world that requires you to possibly call your dispatcher or your chief pilot about an irregularity?
I'm with you on the hotels dude, I really am, but a lot of the other stuff falls under the category of do your job. An occasional missing signature in a log can is not a dumpster fire.
As far as the mommy comment, you are right, I miss my own... i spent all my time with yours.

Are you saying that there are trips you go on and afterwards for an overnight there is no hotel ready for you to head off to for the night??

The company is working on a solution. For some reason since they changed to this new company (probably cheaper), there have been instances of crews getting to overnights without hotels, however in most cases they were able to get them a hotel or they were deadheaded back. This has never been a problem until the last couple of months. I had 2 issues, one where the usual hotel had rooms and we were accommodated immediately and one other where they had to find another hotel and it took a couple of hours. The worst cases have been unscheduled overnights. I don't expect this to go on much longer but we will see.

No the worst is when the hotel doesn't check names on the overnights and gives your room to another crew/crewmember who is off schedule and you show up without a room because the idiot up front didn't check IDs and you are stuck with no room at a sold out hotel.
