Yeah, I brought that up. Said buddy claims that the training department has a waiver to 117 and can upgrade FOs with less than 1000 hours 121 SIC.... Sounds more than a little misinformed, or perhaps farcical.

Your buddy sounds like an idiot. Or he's playing with you. If it's the former, I hope he fails out of training.

I came here with no 121 time. I started on 2/2/15. Training takes 3.5 months to finish IOE. I received a line on my first bid after IOE so I had less than a month on reserve. The lines tend to credit between 80-85 hours. 83 hours a month gets you 1000 hours a year. But you have to account for recurrent and cancellations. My goal is to fly that 83 hours a month which is feasible, but you have to be willing to work.
Realistically I think you are looking at 1.5 years from DOH.
Ive been told they are looking to get to 1100 pilots (personally I don't see us ever getting there). I think we have ~550-600 pilots including the guys in training. That would indicate that we have just hired the most junior captain based on the growth. And everyone else would have to rely on some attrition.

It will be to 2014 hires before too long it looks like and it should really drop fast. It looked like guys that were July 2014 hires will be holding it soon and the CQFO's shortly thereafter.

Don't forget.. A CQFO holds a seniority number.. So as soon as someone gets their mins, and is senior to a CQFO, they will jump ahead of the CQFO, and may never have to sit as a reserve Captains. We can only upgrade as fast as we can get planes on property. To receive those planes, we need to hire the crews to fill them. So the variable here, is.. how fast can we hire the people we need. The goal was 40/month (two classes of 20). Last class has about 6-7 people, the one before that had 16, and 14 before that.

We do some of the oddest class sizes. They were averaging about 30/month. Then they run one class for a month. Then we do a class of 17 followed with a class of 6. Lately it's been about 20-25 a month which is stil adequate. That 40/month was a little over the top in my opinion. 25/month through next spring will still put this place in a good spot for staffing. It will be minimally staffed, but staffed.
