FYI - we said the same thing back in 2006 and 2007, sure enough upgrade minimums were lowered to ATP mins.

Additionally, we had already run airplanes off runways in Canada before that too...If the company has a hard time staffing planes, i'd expect minimums to be reduced, but other methods will be used before they resort to that.

Parking airplanes due to not having enough captains has to be a bigger financial burden compared to paying higher insurance premiums. Compass and G7 are both lower than TSA I though. As always, correct me if I'm wrong, but its not off the table just yet.

I think the 3000 TT min has more that do with TSA running planes off the runway in Canada. The Colgan Crash in 2009 plays a big role in all of the Regionals being in about the same boat on TT on upgrade. You have to have 1500 min to get hired these days ( unless you are military or your college is approved for the restrictive ATP.) So you basically only need 1500 more which is around 2 years. I actually think that is about the min someone should spend who came straight from a piston to his or her's first jet.

I applied, interviewed, and was hired today. From all indications, mostly from the great three employees today that conducted the interview, this is gonna be a good ride.

If you're on a sinking wooden ship, and a iron battleship comes sailing by offering assistance....
If you don't mind me asking...were you offered a class date and when? Thanks in advance. Interview is scheduled for the 22nd of Dec.

Good luck! You won't find a better group of people. You will see at the interview.

The pilots who ran off the runways were cleared and well over the mins. It was ungrooved runways and no thrust reversers. Probably more of an insurance issue.

Agreed. Step 1 CQFO's. Interesting to see what step 2/plan b is when that well runs dry. You have to think they budgeted that kind of thing when putting together their bid for the flying.

If they lower captain mins they would need lots of FOs too. They can't lower FO mins obviously and it would become a case of not enough FOs in order to upgrade current FOs. The only thing you can do then is to sell it to prospective pilots as possibility of faster upgrades, who knows if that will work. The only reason they have any interst now is because of the cqfo deal. It's going to be tough to find guys in the long term.

It's going to be tough for everyone. The peak of this whole situation is still 5 years out. In 2015 it is estimated that 1044 mainline legacy pilots (including fedex, ups, and alaska) will retire.
