Fellow pilots,
This is Captain [Y'all know who], MEC Chairman, with an update to the VARS on Monday, July 11, 2011.
We are pleased to report that after around the clock negotiations the negotiating committee has reached a tentative agreement with the company on the contract. Honorable improvements were made throughout the contract with significant gains in compensation. The next step will be for the MEC to be fully briefed and then accept or reject to send the TA out for pilot ratification. We are encouraged by the preliminary responses by the MEC. Assuming the MEC accepts the TA, the negotiating committee will conduct road shows to educate the pilot group on the details of the TA. A pilot ratification vote is tentatively expected to open around July 20th and conclude by July 29th. Road shows will continue through the rest of this month until the ballot closes. Dates and locations will be announced in coming days. I would like to thank the negotiating committee for their hard work over the last several years and especially the last few days. I would also like to thank many of the ALPA staff and national officers that have supported us these last 6 years. Both the MEC and SPSC all deserve our gratitude for the tremendous planning efforts to drive these negotiations to a successful conclusion. Additionally, I would like to thank the TSA pilot group for your continued patience and support. Stay tuned over the next few days for more information and additional announcements.
Fraternally,
TSA MEC & ALPA Negotiating Committee

I'm really interested to see what they came up with. The "last positions" of the company and the union were SO far apart that I'm amazed this was possible.
