I sure as hell hope it wasn't any of the crew of the DH that did something like that.

Yep. How would he know there hadn't been a last minute schedule change to use somebody else in IAH?

Exactly. It's not the responsibility of the operating crew to notify people of schedule changes. There's a scheduling department for that. (They do occasionally try to get us to do their jobs for them)

And it's certainly not the responsibility of the operating crew to rat anyone out for being on the DH/not on the DH.

It was the deadheading captain that called scheduling.

Why would the dirtbag do that to a fellow crewmember?

Let's not jump to conclusions on this. Probably an innocent call since the FO was probably listed on the pairing and was absent from the DH. He probably didn't want to show up in IAH and not have a FO to operate the flight.
Or maybe he thought he was being nice and called dispatch to hold the flight since maybe he thought the FO was running late and maybe was doing the FO a favor....
Lots of "probably" and "maybe" in my post, catch my drift?
I'm not defending the CA, just saying we don't know, so let's spare the name calling.

I was just typing a similar post. Also wouldn't fault any crew member for checking after last year's dissapearing captain act which started on a deadhead.

I'm not the scheduling police. We have schedulers and chief pilots for that. I have enough to worry about making my own schedule work and getting myself where I am supposed to be to go worrying about everybody else. Now if I get to the airplane to work a flight, and its boarding time and no Captain, then I will call somebody. Until then its none of my business how they get there. If they aren't there, then its up to scheduling to figure it out and flight ops/dispatch to make it work. My job is to get myself where I am supposed to be on time, fit for duty, and ready to perform my job. Supervising other crewmembers schedule is not my responsibility.

You have to be sometimes if you want to complete a trip and go home in time. Schedulers, especially here, can be overwhelmed and lose track of people. It's not a bad thing to help them by reminding them of what's happening. Sometimes you may even save the day for the pax.

In this case I sincerely doubt the captain had sinister intent. He probably checked who he was flying with and when he didn't see the FO he didn't want to get down to iah and wait 4 hours till they found another. How was he to know that the FO would show up in iah even though he was suppose to be in stl with them, I don't fault him for inquiring.

Not what I meant at all. It is my job to maintain my schedule and advise scheduling when I see things that are problems with my schedule. Its not my place to supervise someone else's schedule.
