I was at TSA just shy of nine years. I did initial FO in the J-32 and EMB-145, then 145 captain twice. First time I got pulled out of IOE after 9-11 but still got my type rating. I never busted a checkride and always felt I hed decent instructors, even the two times I had Flight Safety instructors. You had to study a lot on your own, and the Captain I was paired with in the sim as a new hire really helped me out a lot. She really showed me the right way to study to get through the TSA checkrides.
I felt 737 training at UAL was harder then anything I did at TSA. I think I am an average pilot, so I don't think flying skill had anything to do with my checkride pass rate. Study hard and it can be done.
