Trans States

Don't think this way man. I did what you are talking about and lived to regret it. I had been trying to get on with skywest back in 2005 and they totally ignored me until I was about a week into new hire class at Trans States when they called me to interview. I decided to stay since I was already in class. Everyone at Trans States told me to go as fast as I could and I should have listened to them. I put two years into that place and finally bailed when the GoJet stink got to be unbearable and bailed to go to Skywest. By that point, they had hired a ton of pilots and I l was stuck being junior for a long time. Trans States does NOT care one bit about you, your career, or if you live or die for that matter so show them the same amount of loyalty they show their employees and bail to a better company if you get the chance. I beg you to do what is right for YOU and not Trans States. They haven't earned loyalty from anyone as you're about to find out.

It is going to be a slooooow month. I think the days of 100+ credit a month are over for a long time.

Have you seen how much open time there is out there in STL and IAD? I think most of the reserves will be working just to cover it. Really, there could have been at least 3 or 4 build ups in both domiciles

I might be interested in TSA as my first airline, but I am concerned about the TSA washout rate which has historically been high according to various message boards. That is a show stopper for a new airline applicant, then and later when they report that failure to the next company. What do you think is the washout rate one could expect these days at TSA? I understand it is higher for FlightSafety trainees because they do not get op-specific training emphasis, but what odds are we looking at here?

The washout rate has been historically very high for a few reasons. One was that when TSA got desperate for pilots, they dropped their minimums to "wet commercial and a pulse". A lot of guys who came right out of flight school just weren't ready to fly a jet. Add to that the high level of expectations put on new hires to do their own studying and the issues you mentioned with some of the sim instructors, it did hit 50% for a while. The training really ISN'T that bad, you just have to make sure you take the initiative on your own, (don't wait for the company to spoon-feed you). There are a lot of guys in STL willing to help out new hires as well, so if you DO end up giving it a shot, make sure you get in touch with them, they'll help immensely.

Hey man, from what I hear the wash-rate at TSA these days isn't much worse than it is at any of the other regionals. For that matter SKW has a much "harder" class if you're talking about difficulty. One of the guys I worked with is at TSA now and he blitzed his class with no problems. Honestly if you study hard you should have no issues. All that being said, TSA hires a lot of people that other carriers might pass on, so the class might not be as sharp to start with. No offense to my TSA brethren of course. I totally understand your concerns for your future my friend, but put in 100% and you'll come out fine. (Oh and get the you know what out of TSA as soon as a better gig comes along, not that I have to tell you that if you follow this thread)
