I think the new hire classes are because they realize that nobody will be returning. Of the 35ish furloughed I would be surprised if they got 5-10 to return. I believe that is why the voluntary furlough round was skipped. Many have other jobs already and come on the flying is ONLY UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2013!!!!! So in a little over a year the same game will happen again. 3rd furlough in 6 years for me? I THINK NOT!

For future airline pilots...if you only got like 250 hours and some airline hires you this summer...it'll be a sign that airline doesn't plan on keeping you around very long; you're career with them will end within a year. They know it'll be impossible for you to get 1250 hours in 12 months.
Getting hired at Trans States, you will inevitably:
1. Wash out of training. If you are lucky and surive you will:
2. Be fired for the slightest issue. If you keep your nose clean or get lucky you will:
3. be furloughed next year.
With that said, a new hire there who avoids, by the grace of God, options 1 and 2, will lose their job eventually anyway. Which means, you run the real risk of ruining your CAREER for a JOB that you won't keep anyway.
Which all leads me to ask one question to anyone considering working there:

The latest methods from the FAA this February on how to obtain the ATP are proposals it's not set in stone. Check with the FAA. As it's been said, the Act to obtain an ATP is a law but not the methods. Either way they won't be able to find pilots next year the shortage is coming!

I don't know if it will be the shortage because that is another issue but how do you get pilots to work at a place that in about a year you will be laid off when they lose the flying for the 6 airplanes they just saved?

Don't expect the proposal to change much from its current state, if at all. The deadline is approaching and airlines need to prepare. It's already pretty restrictive. Ie, if u come to ERAU with your instrument rating you are disqualified from the 1000 restricted ATP. This would be one of the things I could see changed, but doubt it.

If TSA hires new people with super low time, and they don't put together a new training course to certify their FOs with ATPs than don't expect more flying after September 2013, including those Mrjs.
I would expect in the next couple of months TSA should notifying their FOs that they need to get the ATP written done and put out some ATP training program. All through next year you should see pilots scheduled for ATP check rides; all way before august 2013 and if you see none of this than well, lights out.
If they do go through with certifying everyone, who pays for the written? Upgrading was vollentary before so you never had to get your written done.

I'm just wondering with a reputation for hiring and then furloughing shortly after... how will they get any new hires (let alone high hour applicants) to come to TSA? There is no promise of new flying. Wasn't it hard enough to get new hires (with the typical low mins) to come here over last summer?

So besides all this "furlough/recall" nonsense, how's thing's going in the day-to-day at Trans States? Still the "same stuff, different day" kind of theatrics? Is it everything I remember?
