777-ATC vs Flt Information 4 IFR clearances.
Hello,
If any 777 or 87 bretheren can impart their operational experience, when requesting & picking up IFR clearances, with both, would be swell. I find myself using "flight information" exclusively, instead of "ATC" on all international legs.
Thanks,
HD

The Flight Information menu selection appears to be the same as that of ATS (Air Traffic Services), the ARINC 623 protocol. This protocol is used for DCL clearance in Asia and Europe and for requesting an Oceanic Clearance. On some Boeing aircraft (757/767/747), the title of the ACARS page indicates what is used: AOC or ATS. The equivalent titles on the 777 are Company (AOC) or Flight Information (ATS).
The ATC function is for CPDLC. In the US, a CPDLC DCL can only be requested using CPDLC. DCL (ATS) and CPDLC DCL are entirely different protocols and are not interchangeable (to my knowledge).
The Jepp Airport chart typically displays the difference in the title. An ICAO DCL CLX is listed as ACARS in the title, whereas a CPDLC DCL CLX is titled CPDLC.
Full disclosure: I'm not a 777/787 pilot (on 747-4/8), though I have the current FCOMs. In other words, I could be completely wrong.
