They’ve waived that restriction in the past. They very well might do that.

That requirement is not in the FOM. If you have the times, you can upgrade after finishing FO OE. The contract does have the 500 hour requirement, but it also says "the Company may reduce any of the conditions" so it doesn't keep them from following what's in the FOM. If you are WQ and you get an interview, convince them that you want to upgrade and spend a long time on reserve.

Hmm. I thought there was language preventing anybody from upgrading until their one year anniversary. Isn’t that what the Jan 23 LOA relieved?

There's nothing stopping direct entry captains. Company removed all those restrictions end of 2022. That they didn't effectively communicate that in their presentation tells you all you need to know about Sunny.

There is no such thing as a direct entry captain here. FOM 2.2.21 dictates this in pretty plain language. All upgrades must first complete FO training, all the way through completion of OE. So they need to be an FO first, then they can be a captain. That’s not a direct entry program.

that is still better than 500 hours as FO before you can upgrade.

I figured that was obvious. Perhaps I should have been more clear....

Your claim was “there’s nothing stopping direct entry captains.” Currently, their own words are stopping it. I just wasn’t sure what you were trying to get at with that statement is all.

It's weird, and I think you're right that this is what the LOA relieved, however, the company can reduce the requirements with or without the LOA. I think the aforementioned question of having to complete FO IOE is something that has to go through the FAA. Even if the company wanted to change that in the FOM, the FAA would have to approve the training program. Since the company doesn't have any other training program implemented, good luck changing that. If you want to split hairs over semantics, it's not really a direct entry captain set-up, right? But if you look at the FO training as part of your training pathway to the captain, it's pretty close to being a direct-entry scenario. Assuming, of course, that you have all the required times.

One of you guys must be management! The 500 company hours for upgrade suddenly reappeared this week. Hummm. My money is on YerOnGuard. Knows FOM a little too well!

Very, very, few are upgrading anyway.
Just fifteen upgrades first five months of the year. On pace for thirty-six upgrades in 2024.
