New hire questions

Here's an unrelated question:
I've been in the military and have no idea how civilian healthcare works.. as we are coddled like babies by TRICARE on active duty. Now it's time to be a grown up.
How is health insurance at Sun Country? Is it above average compared to other companies/what is your personal experience working with them? Are there any limitations if I decide to decline service during INDOC and start the plan about a year later? I will have separate coverage until mid-summer 2023 so if I can save money and just stick with my other coverage until it expires, then initiate SY healthcare mid 2023, that would be good. Please advise if you see any problems with that plan..things like enrollment windows, paying into your plan (starting sooner is better?). There is a lot I don't know so I apologize for the ignorance.
Thanks in advance!

It’s a big change from TRICARE, but with having to pay comes the freedom of going pretty much wherever you want. It’s through BCBS of MN, which is a big network and if you’re not in MN, it will work with your local BCBS.

we have an open enrollment period every year usually oct-nov, which would allow you to choose your health insurance and other benefits (eye, dental, 401k etc.) as you see fit for the following year. As far as health insurance goes, we have 3 options, all are blue cross blue shield and the main differences are the deductible, hsa, co-insurance, and annual max out of pocket amounts. like the other guy said and im sure its been posted here before, the lowest cost plan for single employee is about $25/mo same plan but for you and spouse is about 38 and if you add one or more kids its maybe 45.

I can’t speak to the company health insurance but I believe losing your Tricare would be a “qualifying life event” as a “loss of health coverage” that would allow you to sign up for the company insurance outside of the open enrollment window. Do some googling on that term and I bet you’ll have your answer.

How long is the wait normally

Classes filling to December right now, but there are some last minute spots that open up every so often.

Those are pretty reasonable times. An internal rec would get your app pulled and looked at if it hasn't already been.
