I think what he’s saying is something like day 5 of 5 overnight in mco for example and then fly mco-Msp-ord-Msp which is a good point. They may do something like that just the extra penalty lap. But the schedules have pairing like this already so I’m not exactly sure if this is what he meant.

It's a good point that they *could* peg the turns onto trips to offset the trip rig as they are doing now. But, in line with the direction this topic is going, that is going to be limited. First, it's happening now, so it wouldn't be something new. Second, there are a limited number of turns that would work. AM is pretty much ruled out for last day, but could be used for first day in limited cases. Generally the offline flights would be hard to find after early afternoon. PM would have to be rather short or it doesn't work, and there is a finite number of ORD and DEN turns in the network. Push things close to duty day limits and the whole plan would be fatigue called into oblivion. Afaict, the average min day isn't going to do much to prevent this. In the end, while they could continue to use this tactic, I don't see it suddenly became much worse than it is now. If it were possible, they would probably already be doing it.

My UPS friends agree that their QOL isn't great, but making $200K plus your second year helps the sting.
I'm guessing since OP went through the effort to interview and apply at 2 separate places, he/she's just making sure they don't have any second thoughts about leaving. I have yet to meet anyone regret leaving Sun Country. They may miss the people, but they sure don't miss the schedules.

Could be true if Sunny actually implements the QOL gains, and I hope you guys actually get them. As it stands, I'm hearing the 2022 schedules haven't seen any improvement from the 2021 schedules, especially with the 85 hour months and no ability to drop or manipulate your schedule. From the opinion of 6 formerly locally based Sunny pilots, commuting to a legacy has brought a better QOL to their family than being based locally with Sunny. I will agree though that if you're top 20 in each seat, this advice obviously doesn't apply to you.

There comes a point for FOs and CAs where we make enough money.. priority shifts to giving us time with family and flexibility to live life while working.

They seem to be popular with additional lines added for November and still having plenty of alternates in both seats (albeit far more FOs). As a commuter I’m happy to see them but fear they may go more senior when the 3.5 trip rig takes effect.

They’re pretty enticing. There were quite a few where you can deviate on day 2, thereby bringing down a 13-day trip to a 12-day. It’s also easy flying and a nice way to rack up some airline miles with legacy on your deadhead deviations. I was also pleasantly surprised by the addition of seven more long lines and hope they build more of them for December. The only caveat with these lines is they’re all Amazon, so in theory, they could decide not to renew in a few years, and these long trips go away. I don’t see that happening, but with any contract flying, it’s always a possibility. Cautiously optimistic either way

That was my takeaway as well. I know it’s something of the union’s job to criticize management but this was a notably different tone than the MEC had even a couple weeks ago. I think they’re as dumbfounded by the complete disregard for vacation leveling as the rest of us and assume that’s a sign of things to come. It seems management believes direct entry captains will solve all their problems but I don’t think there are tons of folks with 1000 121 time (much less significant time in a 737), dying to fly for SY when the legacies are hiring at those numbers.
