No to both. Retro pay isn’t really a thing unless the contract has be delayed for a really long time. We got it done in a matter of months, which is pretty rare in the industry. Our new hire applications are stacked to the rafters currently, so the company has no real interest in a signing bonus.

I realize this is a huge unknown, but any guess on how long to expect to be reserve for someone hired in the next few months?
Will pilots continue to leave with the new contract or will the company seniority be fairly stagnant?
I'm currently 30% at a local regional and can pick what days I want to work and I can pick trips that start and end between 8am and 9pm. Any guess how many years to get that kind of schedule control again?

Do you live in MSP? The new contract is a welcome change but this place still isn’t commuter friendly and probably won’t be for some time. I imagine there will still be some churn especially in the 1-3 year seniority mark. Lots of commuters hired in the last couple years and many I’ve talked to still plan to leave if offered a job at a legacy, or that allows them to drive to work. It’s unlikely you’ll have much control over your schedule for at least a couple years. There is a plan to implement PBS which should help and the union will be building the pairings from here on out. If you come here, expect 90-95 credit lines with 12-13 days off until we get to a good staffing level. I don’t mean to be a Debbie downer and overall I’m very happy with the changes coming, but it’ll be a bit before we see any real changes to schedules. Lots of growth planned though. You’ll have a good schedule in relatively short order if they hit their growth targets.

As far as reserve time goes, anything specific would be a wild guess. It was only a few months for some of us a few years ago. For those hired just before us it was over a year. If I were guessing it would be a very short time (~few months) on reserve going forward for a while.
I also think pilots will continue to leave, for a while anyway. Anyone who was on the fence is probably staying to see how this plays out, but many were pushed over the fence by crew planning/scheduling over the last year or so, and will still leave no matter what. Additionally, anyone who went thru the effort and expense of applying, prepping, and interviewing somewhere, is probably going there if given the opportunity. This contract is life changing for Sunny pilots, but if someone doesn’t live in MSP and doesn’t want to, there are still lots of wait and see type promises in this contract that don’t exist at the places people have offers. I think once all the implementation dates have passed, there will be much less attrition. Until then, I expect it will continue.
As for being able to pick your schedule, that is a big unknown. There are people here for 20+ years who have garbage schedules and little ability to modify it under the current contract. This is due primarily to the way crew scheduling/planning has been circumventing the initial open time process by over-allocating vacation relief lines. More inside baseball that you were asking for, but essentially they’ve made it so that no matter how much seniority you have, you get what they give you. This should be better under the new contract, but should is the operative word there. PBS is on the horizon, and could make it great or horrific…time will tell.
