For the record, the following post has absolutely ZERO facts behind it. At ALL!!! Pure speculation and rumor from the F9 side. But I have heard it from more than one pilot. Again, rumor only.
So Spirit is waiting for F9's IPO, then then we are going to merge. Spirit gets an MCO base. F9 gets their LAS base and the new company gets to drag out negotiations even longer.

Spirit is trying to raise their level of service albeit ever so slightly. A merger with jetBlue, whose board is pushing for better margins, would make far more sense as we're both trying to become more of each other. They also have the same engines (think manuals and spares) and have wifi that NK will begin installing in 2018.
And FWIW, BWI will be the next base. You heard it here first.

I couldn't think of a worse move for the BOD of Spirit. Who wants F9? They aren't growing and only Indigo knows if they're making money. It's a stagnant operation with a bunch of Stockholm syndrome pilots. While the latter may appeal to our management I can't see acquiring a treading water airline with different engines, different cabin configurations, different manuals, and a different reservation system.

I also think that being purchased by JetBlue would would absolutely be better than being bought by Spirit Wings.

Edit: Explain to me how merging will cause negotiations to last even longer? Typically the unions have required a JCBA prior to an SLI. The company needs an SLI to streamline the operation. That is unless they are able to keep is completely separate and whipsaw us.

This rumor resurfaced because F9 is getting close to their IPO. I heard this week... which is also a rumor.
