As to how long the process will take, at our current pace I'd say a minimum of 1 year. The union has stated they anticipate to start negotiating the work rules & compensation portions in February, how long it will take with those meat an potatoes sections, no clue.....
fair enough and totally agree with both you and A320. Based on the information that you guys provided I think your right. 1 year would be a good estimate if everyone is willing to come to the table and work together. I have seen in other threads that you guys were looking for industry standard but no one really defined industry standard. As of right now there seems to be two different standards for the same aircraft size (major and legacy standard) so I'm happy and encouraged that you guys are trying to tighten the gap between the two.

I don't want you to get the wrong impression; prior to mediation, the company backed out of several previously agreed upon negotiating sessions. In mediation, they've decided they weren't up to ANY negotiating sessions this month (December). We're at the table tapping our fingers, they're giving excuses. Hope that gives you an idea who we're dealing with.

Sounds like it's time to go to Delta.

Anyone who thinks that this company is going to give us a new contract out of the goodness of their hearts is an idiot. The company is saving big $$$ by not giving us a new contract. The union isn't pushing hard for a new contract either. Begging and asking "Pretty Please" just isn't going to do it anytime soon.

Honestly I don't want Delta or any of the Legacies for that matter. I'm looking for more in terms of QOL. With all of the legacies work rules and bases they can't give me what I'm looking for. Money doesn't make happiness, Sure it helps and its important, but I don't want to be a miserable old man living in a place that I don't want to be, working under a contract that will not give me the QOL that I'm looking for.

Then why are you looking at Spirit? You can be miserable and poor here. I'd rather be miserable and rich.

Don't kid yourself. If you managed to get hired at Delta, within 6 months of being there you would be on their APC thread whining about the BS schedules, crappy overnights, having to fly the antiquated MD80, etc. Face it, it's you.

We are certainly behind industry average here at Spirit in pay and retirement. Our QOL though is not bad. It's certainly comparable to other majors and perhaps slightly better in some areas.
