I'd vote yes if they put two extra days off on my schedule in the month they want me to complete this training. All else being equal.
This is one step in the march to reduce the need for pilots and gain 'efficiency'. I wonder if any analysis has been done on how this will effect staffing?

Not only is this TA (it's a TA, not LOA for now) weak in substance, I see several holes in the language. Remember, they (MEC) had all the time they wanted to proof and send the NC back for improvement. This is the final product they decided to send us. Also keep in mind, given the savings to the company, we have the leverage on this issue. The company should want this more than we do.
Example of holes?
B2 - How is "fair market" determined? Think 5 years from now you are sent a $600 bill for a 6 year old ipad you could pick up online for $50. Also, the normal grievance procedures apply to finding fault on the loss of equipment. The process would go like this (for your $50 ipad)...
- I lost my ipad while maintaining due diligence.
- company disagrees
-MEC files formal grievance
-company dismisses grievance
Next step? Arbitration.
Ask yourself if your MEC is going to spend 10K arbitrating a $50 ipad. Easier and cheaper to send you the $600 bill. Maybe they will payroll deduct it for you.
B7 Bothers me too. The requirement is to "meet and confer", just like we have now with uniforms. As stated before, the company could dress us in gorilla suits if they wanted, all they are required to do is "confer" with the MEC.

Thanks! I just spewed coffee all over my laptop.
Edit: Yeah, not impressed with this. Nowhere near enough money/ time off to balance the operational efficiencies the company will gain from this. If this is the kind of work the NC is planning to deliver for the next CBA...well, they might want to think again. Did I mention how unimpressive this TA is?!? While I look forward to the day of ditching paper jepps/ manuals, this distance training isn't gonna work for me in it's current iteration.
That said, I don't see using iPads for operational use and distance training as a singularity. The company has plenty reason to proceed with operational use regardless of our agreeing to distance learning. No reason we can't agree to in-flight usage while still working out the details of remote training.
For now it's a big fat NO here!

Anyone know what "industry standard" is for distance learning,?

RE 2 days off-
Correct me if I am wrong, but we will still be responsible for 1 day of ground school conducted in a classroom, paid up to 9hrs. So a non-fll based pilot will need 2 days of travel plus class equaling three days for training. Doesn't this one day of classroom in effect equal at least 2 extra days off because they would have to drop a trip to get you to and from FLL and have the required time off before and after training?
As long as we are still required to attend class for 1 day, I feel like we are going to get a training conflict out of this. Assuming you are not FLL based.
Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I just contacted my rep to let him know that not only is this a NO vote, but why it is a no vote. The MEC needs to punt this dirty diaper back to the NC and say "Not good enough"
Also, this is a "strike 1," in my view, on what the NC is negotiating. Junk like this can not be presented or allowed to make it to the pilot group for vote.

I credited 92 hours just for ground school last month. 92. That's with 2 drops, picking up a trip and actual ground school on days off. That's in addition to the rest of my flying for the month.
So, 5 hours per day instead of 4...I didn't take any math in college, but that seems like 2 extra hours of pay. And when the frak are we supposed to do this training?
Those of you hoping only for 2 measly days off think about this.
I'll take the possibility of 92 hours, even if it isn't reality every year. Plus they're saving a ton on hotels, trip drops, positive space and poor Bruce is gonna be out of a job, ok?
As much as I want a new iPad, it looks like a no for me.

This isnt a "we dont get ipads" or "we do". The company has the ipads in a closet, paid for, and running testing on them. We vote this down and send it back to say "do better." The company knows that there is a ton of room for them to make money with these things and still increase the pay for us.
