My reasoning, extremely amateurish I realise, is this: JetBlue is the fifth largest airline in the U.S. (of the majors), I'm not sure how easy regulators would sanction a merger between JetBlue and a legacy/SWA. New York is a huge market, but one where JetBlue has a significant presence. Plus, JetBlue doesn't offer anything the legacies don't already have. But, they are innovative in their thought process, haven't acquired anyone, but have shown a tendency to "team up" with other airlines. A merger with Frontier offers an established and more respected brand name than Spirit, a somewhat loyal customer base (which JetBlue relies on) and aircraft (Airbus) orders. A merger with Frontier offers middle America access, something JetBlue doesn't have a lot of.

What is this talk of contract extension you speak of? Can you elaborate?

Apparently, the rumor is out there that the company is looking at offering JetBlue +some percentage, same work rules and an extension to the current contract of two years.
I didn't start the rumor either...

The MEC has said in a p2p call there has been no discussion of this with mgmt whatsoever. This is purely rumor with no basis in reality

I guess on the surface, this sounds ok but the merger/scope implications could be disastrous and it doesn't address retirement contribution. Glad it's just an unsubstantiated silly rumor

Regardless of what the company and or MEC decide to float, it would be very foolish for us to vote on anything without rock solid scope and merger language protections. I won't even open my eyes until those two items are addressed.

I completely agree, lest we become the unfortunate gentleman in your avatar.

Good news, but I'm going to tentatively file that away in the "If you vote no, we will be in no-man's land" folder. That file is located right next to the "This place will never IPO" and "Airlines are bad investments" folders.
