On the flip- my paycheck has never bounced here. When I had family emergencies, deaths in the family or the like I have been granted time off, no questions asked. I'm not harassed or bothered by the "uniform police" or any other silliness. I'm left to do my job stress-free and drama-free, no holiday card or group hug required.

And I apologize for the off-topic conversation in light of our co-worker's illness; I agree whole-heartedly that it's on US as a group to pull together some type of support for this guy and his family, regardless of his job or insurance status. I've had a conversation with our MEC Chairman and he anticipates a piece to come out from our union by early week.

I have realistic expectations of what that "relationship" was, is, and will be here. I've worked for corporate America and know the "real deal" you're speaking of...well enough to know that it's disappearing daily from every job in the country. As well, I live in the Atlanta area and know a great deal about Delta and the historical relationship with their employees. I knew coming here that I'd never get the fancy new hire dinner with my wife and new bosses, etc. and have always been okay with that. Those same guys that got that fancy dinner and are praised regularly by their leaders also fly 5 days, off 2, then go back on for 8.

I'm not asking out of spite or anything like that, I think you have to do what's best for you and your family, but what's not to like here?

Where does one find the "real deal" in airline employment these days?

It's all about perspective I suppose. I came up on the hard victor airways of the CJC. This place is paradise compared to there!
Perfect? Nope. But I would not classify this mgmt as hostile
(CJC = Colgan air)

I don't need a card or a dinner where our wives can come, that's all nice and good but it's a waste of money IMO. Make money, follow the contract, everything else is icing on the cake I suppose

Oh, and yeah Mr. "I'm typed in a 747" but I've got no time in it. I list it as my position on here and I have the sticker in my flight bag. Real impressive dude. Don't let the door hit you...
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Spirit isn't perfect, and far from it. It is a sweet place to work, but we can make it better. WE have to act and change the culture. Pilots can change the culture - we just have to engage those around us who damage the product. We must demand standards be kept! The pilots who don't speak up are ones empowering the rest of the team to continue with their substandard behavior. Speak up! And I don't believe the "it's not my job" crowd. It IS your job. If you sit and look through the cockpit window at inadequate service and let the plane fly like that OUR customers suffer and so do we. Do nothing you are partly responsible. Especially if you are PIC. You're a manager. A team leader. It's in the FOM. The company supports that you are a manager and leader. They can't have eyes everywhere that's why they have US. If you don't think so, resign and let a leader take your shoes. This company is trying to grow, and while I'll demand pay commensurate, I'll act like I deserve it at least.
And, let's stop referring whiners!
Sorry, rant over. And sorry for our sick brother. Let's help him if we can.
