MIRAMAR, Fla., Aug. 16, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spirit Airlines (SAVE) Dispatchers, represented by the Transport Workers Union (TWU), voted to ratify a new contract reached between the airline and the TWU. The new five-year agreement was ratified by TWU Members at Spirit Airlines yesterday and became effective today.
"We are pleased to have reached a mutually beneficial and competitive agreement that recognizes our high quality team of Dispatchers for the great job they do every day for the company and our customers," said Spirit's President and CEO Ben Baldanza. "We look forward to further building a relationship of mutual trust and respect with all of our dispatch team members." The agreement provides improved pay for Spirit's Dispatchers while at the same time maintaining efficiency and supporting the company's continued growth and ability to offer ultra low fares, optional services and low total prices for its customers. "I am extremely pleased to have reached an agreement that recognizes the critical role our Members play and provides the economics that allow Spirit Airlines to remain the leading Ultra Low Cost Carrier of the Americas," said TWU Local 540 President Alex Giarrocco. About Spirit Airlines Spirit Airlines (SAVE) empowers customers to save money on air travel by offering ultra low base fares with a range of optional services, allowing customers the freedom to choose only the extras they value. This innovative approach grows the traveling market and stimulates new economic activity while creating new jobs. Spirit's modern fleet, configuration and other innovations enable Spirit to burn less fuel per seat than competitors, making Spirit one of the most environmentally-friendly U.S. carriers. Spirit's all-Airbus fleet operates approximately 250 daily flights to over 50 destinations in the U.S., Latin America and Caribbean. Visit Spirit at www.spirit.com. MEDIA NOTE: Spirit aircraft photos and video b-roll are available in the press room section of spirit.com at Spirit Airlines - cheap tickets, cheap flights, discount airfare, cheap hotels, cheap car rentals, cheap travel. I remember last time they were negotiating the company trained a bunch of schedulers and such to work in dispatch. Would have almost been worth the dispatchers going on strike just to watch the ensuing comedy. |

That's great, good to see those guys getting a good contract. They higher the pay, the more desirable the job becomes, the better candidates you attract.
Maybe that will work with our schedulers than I am all for it:D |
Look's like the Twin Cities are working out and making money for Spirit!
Spirit Airlines announces 4 new destinations from MSP Bargain-basement Spirit Airlines is expanding its presence at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport by announcing new service to several additional cities, all them offering warmer weather for Minnesotans starting in November. The new destinations are: Los Angeles, Phoenix, Orlando and Tampa. Service starts Nov. 7, with online booking available now. The routes were revealed at a news conference Monday at the Twin Cities airport’s No. 2 terminal, or the terminal formerly known as Humphrey. Spirit started serving the Twin Cities in June 2012. Its base fares are kept low, while it charges for such “extras” as overhead baggage, water and printed boarding passes. Spirit also packs more people onto its planes by offering less leg room than other airlines. Among those attending the news conference were Jeff Hamiel, the Metropolitan Airports Commission’s executive director, MAC Chairman Dan Boivin and Spirit executive Mark Kopczak. Defending the deep a la carte menu that passengers can choose from, Kopczak said,“We need competitive air service and a menu of choices. It’s important to look at price. Not all customers want first class.” Currently, Spirit flies from MSP to Chicago, Dallas, Denver and Las Vegas. It will resume nonstop seasonal service to Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers on Nov. 7. Spirit’s all-Airbus fleet operates about 250 daily flights to more than 50 destinations in the United States, Latin America and Caribbean. It was founded in 1980 in suburban Detroit as Charter One and is headquartered in Miramar, Fla., just north of Miami. |
Msp
So up to 10 flights out of MSP as of Nov. 7. I hope we plan to add a gate.

I hope these customers don't expect their flights to be on time. The on time performance here, or lack thereof, is absolutely terrible and embarrassing. Neither customers nor the company like to be late. Everyone is working hard to get thing going, at least on the line. I'm sure the business decision to add these new flights from mini were base on your idea that customers will deliberately like to be late. On another note, is good to see new routes. Sailor. |
