They called me for a JA. It paid like 33 hrs for like 6hrs of actual block. I know contractually we are only allowed 5 a year, I thought anyone could get Junior assigned, not just line holders. Either way it was one leg to Boston (day 1 anyway) and oddly enough my Aunt was on that flight and it was delayed a few hours, I had no problem doing it. There was also a crappy 3 day the following day in open time that I would have probably been assigned so it was a win win. I also got move up pay for doing an RWS turn before my call out.
There's so much for me to learn! |
Any current interviewing going on or has it slowed? Went to ORD job fair, filled out the long app. a while ago and haven't heard anything since.

The best answer to the question on breaking guarantee is that you shouldn't count on it. I'm in my 14th year at Spirit and have had fewer than 10 junior assignments in total, and its not from avoiding them.

I just don't think it would be wise to count on junior assignments to survive year one. |

Reserve lines are going senior these days for just this reason. |

Easy. Anything and everything flown outside of reserve footprint is above guarantee. Including JA assignments, and other premium pay. One 4-day trip flown at straight pay on days off and you net 100 hrs. Credit. Throw in a JA and it adds up quickly.

This is not really that easy to do since reserve holders are not allowed to pick up OT. Sure CS may call you for a junior trip but unless the trip isn't covered within 48 hours they won't even hear your request to pick something up. DFW reserve for FO is all junior guys with relief lines going to DEC-JAN hires
It's easy enough for the "me, me, me" crowd that feel contractual language doesn't apply to them. |
