There are some real savvy passengers that feel they were getting a real good value and they keep asking us if we will fly here or there in the near future. But we are expanding and we are putting people into airplanes that have never flown before. Not many of our passengers roll on with Shakespeare in their hand. Most of them get surprised when Discover jacks their interest up after missing a payment. It just that kind of crowd. But they will learn, and the model is proven. Ryan's market share is around 20% or so in Europe. What I am surprised about is that we are the only ones who are pursuing this model. |

Just because two airlines have lower fares and less frills doesn't mean they will merge. Allegiant is small city only, Spirit is large city only. No overlap. Frontier is trying everything it can to compete, but I think a merger with them is equally unlikely. Why merge with them? To get Denver gates? To get a foothold in Trenton? None of this makes sense. Mergers are almost always bad for pilots anyways.

I'll bet anyone a coke or a beer that one of those seven will be involved in a merger in the next four years. I'm not sure how far ahead of official news releases or "decent rumors" the Southwest/AT merger was foreseen for that matter.
By the way, I never said I was cheering for this to happen. Now the merger wave will have to be on the LCC level. Not including SWA/AAI, there have been no mergers whatsoever at this level. If you look at the four: VX, NK, F9, and B6, all have the same Airbus fleet (different engines). VX and B6 are very comparable product-wise. NK is standalone in its product, and F9 is desperately trying to find a buyer. Among those 4, I can definitely see a merger happening in the next 5 years. |
