But if NK is short covering trips, as he mentions on the letter, why can they come to an agreement with ALPO on a premium pay for those who are wiling to stay in the salt mine during their time off. And avoid over hiring people.
It's the companies fault for being short pilots. They are the ones building 18 hour 4 day trips. That's a management problem by any good CEOs standards.

What JH is asking the pilots to do is finance some immediate growth by giving permanent concessions to our CBA. The answer to that will ALWAYS be NO. This agreement has been in place for 2.5 years. The company chose to ignore the JRM language in the CBA. It is not our problem that a judge has now forced them to comply, and they find themselves without enough staff to do so. As the saying goes, poor planning on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on my part.

Agree with all that. So...do they find it cheaper to hire than to pay 150%?

From what (rumors) I've heard:

1. 100% pay for open time
2. @ some time frame 24hrs out?? it goes to 150%..
3. ......and @ some time frame closer 12hrs?? it goes to 200%

I always wondered how you could sit rsvr (72hrs), block 50hr and credit 140??? ..... and then say how hard to you "work" because you make yourelf avail.

and yes it is waaay cheaper to pay 150% than to hire.

LAS and FLL guys can thank the DFW guys for making their lives better. Hopefully, this is just a reflection of a base opening and will get better in January. I am seriously considering going back to commuting if they don't.

I suppose you could argue that if we only flew trips in our base, staffing would be more appropriately balanced as well. But that'll never happen.
