The term pay protected would imply that the trip is dropped paid, yet a corresponding amount of vacation time was not used. As for "getting paid not to work, this is true in as much as you are taking vacation. If a portion of a trip touches your week, it is dropped, but without enough vacation time to pay for it, it is dropped without pay. Therefore, in the latter scenario, it would be more correct to say "NOT getting paid NOT to work". You do get the time off though, which is a nice option to have.

Where I came from 'pay protect' meant the company paid you without charging any banks or line value. Perhaps you use different language here. Anyway, Hugh has admitted his error so you guys can fight it out. I just trying to understand.

Our high staffing per airframe is required to support our high rates of utilization. Skybolt is right that staffing is skewed by our current state of growth, but we know that a high utilization rate will always be in Spirits plan.
Also using that vacation bank, however you use it, is not free. We earn every hour that goes in.

Now I'm confused. If you are scheduled off you aren't paid for that day. If you are scheduled on but drop that day of work, that money comes out of your vacation bank, right? That's money that could have been added to a pay check. Tell me again how you get paid to not work in your vacation scenario.
I will need to know for next year. I want to learn this trick or contract provision.

I never said there was a trick or a contract provision. Your confusion is your own. The very definition of "paid" vacation is you get paid without going to work. Ergo, while on vacation, I will be paid to do nothing for Spirit. You people are over analyzing and picking nit. I am now done with this ridiculous discussion precipitated by your response to my I'm going to have 25 days in a row off post.

The only one who errored was you by making assumptions. My original post was and is absolutely correct. I made no claims of trickery or contractual loop holes. Quit being a troll.

All that is uncalled for Mr Dil.
You parsed your words saying "I did nothing today and still got paid." To those still learning the CBA, or on the outside of NK, you give the impression that you were able to game the system to get a bunch of PAID (by the company) TIME OFF. This is not the case. You say you did NOTHING, but in reality, you USED the vacation time YOU EARNED (by working). Now sack-up, you're looking silly.
