The folks over on the double secret board want to recall the entire mec because spirit airlines is changing our uniform. It would be laughable except I think they really believe that alpa controls what our uniform looks like and not the company that employs us. If spirit decides we are all gonna wear gorilla suits as the new uniform, then I guess I'm gonna have to wear a gorilla suit to work. We don't get to vote on what we wear to work.

Actually the section you refer to only says "The recommendations of the mec shall be considered by the company". It doesn't say anything at all like the mec has final authority. So as I said, if the company says gorilla suits, it's gorilla suits. If its blue jackets with skinny silver stripes, it's blue jackets with skinny silver stripes ugly or not. The company shall bare the costs of said Gorilla suits or blue jackets with skinny silver stripes however.

What a sad commentary, pilots up in arms about whether we wear black and wide gold or dark blue and narrow silver. Judging by what some of us pass off as 'uniform' ('dockers and black sneakers' guys, I'm talking to you) and what we all wear on layovers (jeans and tennis shoes), we're not putting that much thought into our personal appearance. At least red or blue shirts (like the FA's) aren't being considered for us . . . yet.
The company can present whatever image it wants to the public. Provided our uniforms are within basic standards of presentation and professionalism (other carriers use these colors and style already, so the standard is certainly met), what's the big deal?
My only issue is the cost. How much will it cost to buy all this for each pilot on property:
This is supposedly an 'ultra low cost' company. This move doesn't seem very low cost to me. And yeah, during the period where the CA and FO are wearing different stuff (one in the old style, one in the new), we'll look very unprofessional.
In more important news, 4 new hires started GS today, and we're scheduled to run a GS in December too. This also seems like another not so 'ultra low cost' move - running a class of only 4 pilots seems highly inefficient. What is the bottleneck in the training department, the 2 FTD's or sim availability? It can't be instructors (we have plenty now), or classroom space (we have a new training center). Anyone in the know?
