I had always assumed the APC quicktake was kind of like wikipedia.. people could submit info that only has to sound somewhat plausible. Order spread sheets and projections aren't something I would hang my hat on.

Any thoughts on the routes these planes would fly?
None. We are not growing. If we get new aircraft, we will give old ones away. If we get new destinations, we will stop flying to old ones... Simple as that. Sorry.

I totally agree with you, we are not growing at this time, all the plans NK had to continuing on expanding new services down to South America are delayed.

I agree. I personally have flown with a few people who got booted the moment they started questioning the motive behind the board. At least on APC one can express his opinion freely.

There is barely any good info there anymore. I think it is getting slowly abandoned. I myself try to not post there for the lack of good discussion. You end up having a fruitless conversation with the same person, under several different screen names. Even worse than that, everything is hijacked into a political direction. I guess spiritboard was destined to this faith the moment it was created with the anti MEC agenda that is popular among a minority. I don't see anything wrong trying to form an anti MEC opinion (although I am pro current MEC) as long you let the pro MEC folks speak their mind as well. A good discussion, arguing over issues etc in theory helps understanding the problem and should lead to a better solution. On the other hand the timing for a board like that couldn't be worse. Division of any kind is the last thing this pilot group needs right now.

On a different topic:
I guess no vacancies posted for June. That is the ultimate death sentence for the rest of us on the street. June being the highest traffic month in a year, and with next to no attrition, we can forget about a recall until Spring.

Just received the following e-mail:

April 14, 2009

Dear Spirit pilot,

Since the summer of 2006, we’ve been negotiating for a new contract. The progress has been at best slow, at worst nonexistent. For nearly three years, we’ve seen every delay tactic, false promise, and stonewalling scheme in management’s union-busting playbook. Their position seems simple: violate our current contract by finding any loophole to exploit; at the same time, refuse to bargain seriously for a new contract until their hand is forced.

The scenario they have created leaves ALPA with little room to maneuver in order to move these negotiations forward. We have gone far beyond our own obligation to bargain in good faith, and it is time to take this process to the next step.

In response to management’s unwillingness to bargain in good faith, in March, the MEC passed a resolution authorizing the MEC chairman to conduct a strike authorization vote. This authorization was approved by Captain John Prater, president of ALPA, in accordance with ALPA’s Constitution and By-Laws.

Now it’s your turn.

This week, I will be asking you to vote to give your MEC the authority to call for a strike. The first question you may have is, “If it passes, are we going on strike in 30 days?” The simple answer is “no.” Instead, this vote indicates that you understand that lawful self-help would be appropriate in our situation and may be necessary to obtain a fair contract. An overwhelming strike vote will send a clear message to our management and may well help in convincing them to bargain in good faith. This strike authorization vote is an opportunity to show management our unity and our commitment to getting a fair contract.

No one wants a strike, but we all must recognize that this management and their refusal to bargain in good faith may allow no other outcome than a strike. We must send the message loud and clear to this management that we are prepared to enter into self-help in order to get the contract we deserve and that has been long overdue.

I urge each and every one of you to bring these negotiations to a successful conclusion by voting in favor of the strike authorization.

If you have any questions or concerns now or when you receive your balloting information, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or (XXX) XXX-68X4.

Fraternally,

Sean Creed, Chairman

SPA MEC

It seems like we are moving WAY fast here. Our contract has only been amendable for a little over 2 years.

Unless someone cares to help me understand better, I would rather see Spirit Pilots protect our current work rules, wait for the economy to improve, then handle it accordingly. A strike seems premature at this point.

I agree, with the massive number of ppl looking for jobs, waiting for recalls, etc, who would not cross a line to feed their family, like keeping a lion from eating for a month then let it loose in a public place...

These are very tough times, and a Strike or a sorry excuse for intimidation against the Co. I think is not going to stick well with the majority. No today.
We don't have that many choices out there for work. The company has lots of choices for pilots.

IMO
