Anyone have some tips on a weekend (probably a weekday) trip to St John? Got a commitment from the inlaws to babysit so I wanted to take my wife on a short trip in June to get her out of the toddler and newborn monotony. Budget is limited but with out daily service to STT I thought St. John would be great. Take spirit down on day 1, spend day 2 and 3, and take spirit back on day 4.

I did a very quick search on vrbo.com but not much else. Any points of interest, activities, places to eat/shop for groceries, places to stay, car rental suggestions?

Thanks guys.

Gee thanks for the help?

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, for a single person and an average new hire line (I understand it can be all over the place) what is the average take home pay? Say crediting around 80 hours a month? Is that possible?

And what are the premiums for the insurance

You're going to be crediting 72hrs.

I'm not sure the health premiums for single guys but I'm on our cheapest family plan and it's $270/mo and includes dental. The deductible is $4500 but the company gives pilots $3000 toward the deductible which rolls over to the next year if you don't use it all even though the deductible resets. So if you are very healthy you essentially have no deductible the second year on. Company gives single guys $1000 but not sure of the deductible on the single plan. Plan pays 90% after the deductible.

We have other plans that go up substantially in price but I can't provide specifics since I can't remember after choosing the cheap plan was best for my family.

So $38.50 x 72 hrs minus taxes and insurance

I'm in the cheapest plan (single) and my monthly premium is just over $28/month ($14/paycheck). I want to say the deductible is $1,500 but I'm not sure. The company credit is prorated your first year (I think I got $700??) After that, it's $1,000/ year company credit, and what you don't use rolls over. I'm netting about $2,200-$2,300/ month as a line holder staying pretty close to guarantee. I live in Illinois, so I do have State taxes too, and I'm putting 9% into the 401k.

I would plan 30-35k depending on how hard you want to work on first year pay. 80hrs/month is not to difficult once you hold a line, if you live in base and have some seniority 90hrs/month can be done frequently.

Rent a car unless you can find a place to stay in Cruz Bay. I would still recommend one even if you are staying there tho. There are so many places to visit. Having a car is a necessity otherwise. I think it's around $70/day.

Out of St Thomas. Look up the ferry scheduled to Cruz Bay. You can leave out of Charlotte Amale(sp?) or Red Hook. You have to take a cab to either one of these but Charlotte Amale is the easiest and cheapest, but it runs less frequently.

Cool bars: there are a bunch in Cruz Bay. Check out Woody's. The places along the water in Cruz Bay are all pretty cool.

Nice restaurants. Zozo's. Very expensive but one of the coolest atmospheres and best food I've ever had.

Take a day trip to Jost Van Dyke. Trust me it will probably be the highlight of your trip.

If you go to Zozo's make reservations. They even take reservations for seats at the bar.
