Yeah there's a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to legacy debt. They're all in the hole. AAL is $27.6B, UAL is 21.5B, and DAL is 15.1B. The difference is they can all pay their debts moving forward without issue.

It’s nice the government erases airline debt ever so often.

How does a "govt erase debt" work? Not part of BK law... creditors take loss or obtain new financing.

You can order all of the narrowbodies in the world but it's useless without gate space in the hot markets.
Let me get this straight. A judge denied the NK/JB merger because it would reduce competition and hurt "the poors" but you think they're going to allow DL or UA to buy NK?

Dream on.

Oh and AA is doing just fine in MIA.

DL has given MIA to LATAM and is basically feeding them from there to points south.

UA will be the first airline to furlough in the next downturn. They have always had arrogant managers who overpromise and underdeliver and hire until the day they furlough. They are going to surpass AA in debt with this "UnitedNext" refleeting they're doing into a recession.

A friend who works at Willis Tower (Sears?) says more than half the offices are empty. It's a ghost town.

The hiring hasn't stopped. DAL still has classes planned, UAL is accelerating theirs, and AAL still plans on ~2000 new hires next year. Anyone on the fence should get their house in order, like now. It's gonna get a lot worse here before it gets (or IF it gets) better. Hunkering down here is a very high risk solution.
Another kool aid drinking fella thinking AA gonna hire 2000 next year and actually saying UA accelerating, when they were paused for a couple of months. The slowdown post labor day is coming and it’s real. The sky is not falling, but travel is predicted to return to more historical numbers as the final sugar high covid money is finally running out. The only airline that seems to understand reality is Delta, preaching measured and realistic growth. Even they are complaining about over capacity.

most people don’t realize airlines hire up to the same day they furlough. Let them get a taste of 2008. Maybe most of these young pilots will finally learn.
like you said, sky isint falling but the slow down is rearing its head. Gogity

I’m being told the downturn is here so technically Spirit was the first to furlough.

also, people have been predicting BS economic crashes for years and it never happened. It may or may not happen but nobody on this forum knows a ghadammmmmmn thing.

I don't think that the legacies look at short term overcapacity as a bad thing. They can flood the market with seats and bleed much longer than the low cost competition. When that low cost competition either fails or backs out, the legacies will be in place to meet that demand at higher ticket prices resulting from increased competition for the available seats until the new normal stabilizes.

Willis tower is slowly being emptied out as they move a large amount of operations to Arlington Heights but your friend would know that.

I know 67 is just around the corner (again), according to the old guys. So that should increase furloughs when the time comes. Donate if you can, $1000 minimum requested.
