They damn well better make sure the planes are actually catered properly to meet these new tiers. "Oh congratulations, you bought the 'Go Big' bundle! We do apologize, the Wi-Fi is inoperative on this airplane and all we have is bottled water, and we can offer a maximum of 2 ice cubes."...

Yesterday I went to the FLL crew room and spoke to an inflight supervisor. I told her my concerns with the blocked middle seats for commuting/nonrev. She gave me a look of "omg you're right and we didn't think of that". Like literally, they didn't think that part through. I warned her that the company could see a spike in UTC (unable to commute) calls if this happens. She thinks the middle seat block option will only be offered on select flights that are known for not being full.
She further said that the blocked seats would have a physical barrier that would act as a tray table for the aisle and window pax. Ok. Installed and removed by FAs or maintenance? By maintenance. So to do this they'll basically need a dedicated sub-fleet of planes with the blocker trays installed? Yea, basically. So if there's a tailswap, maintenance will need to take time from their day and come remove or install blockers? Ummmmmm......
She was receptive and wrote down my questions and said she would bring them up at their meeting the next day (today).
Everything else they want to offer is fine, but I don't trust our D-list management to actually make it work.
It also does nothing to address things like INOP wifi, catering carts half empty, and our generally half-assed operational quality.

wall?
Seriously, just stay in your lane. We have commuting clause, if a blocked middle seat prevents a pilot from commuting, well that’s how it goes, Use the commuter clause and move on.
inflight manager should be more concerned with how her “girls” are going to actually do an inflight service, while smiling. Most can’t even remember to have the pax close the window shades.

I have seen the middle seat pillow thing on quite a few different European carriers. It is usually a pillow/beanbag type thing that they just plop down and it has a firm top. Kind of like those lap desks that they sell at WalMart during the "back to school" season for college kids. They sometimes buckle in with a seatbelt, but often they just sit there.

Have to laugh at the SPA chairman's message today. Throwing around the word "proud" a lo. Definitely not proud of being bottom of the pay chain again.
all seriousness, don't plan on the company mentioning anything about debt while they enjoy the honeymoon celebration.
time to go block some middle seats

But I heard from a flight attendant that the manufacturer has to install them. So if they install one, and then a commuting crew member has to use that seat, the plane has to go back to the manufacturer to have it removed. Then, if there is a tail swap for maintenance, you guessed it…back to Airbus it goes. It also throws off the W&B so that has to be remeasured each time these are installed and removed. It’s a total FIASCO!!!! How could we possibly make this work?!
