thoughts?
I personally don’t really see Spirit really caring about this because this is just a cover to make it look like they’re in LCC now to set up better for merger.

Sounds like a hell of a deal. We could be just like the USPS. Daddy government writing hot checks to keep the lights on, having to go through Congress to change the prices, can't legally strike...😂😂😂
I think that Spirit will probably survive in some form, but we'll have to wait and see what that is. Do they maintain current size or even grow and get pay parity with the legacies, dramatically shrink the operation and get paid 30-40% less than the legacies, or somewhere in the middle? I do think that the legacies view the ULCC/LCC's as a real threat and will go after them by flooding the market with cheap seats. There is nothing that the executives at the big three would love more than for low cost competitors to liquidate so that they could raise ticket prices and increase revenue.

How do they prop up Spirit and not Frontier and JetBlue as well? Im sure that the companies that are making money would have something to say about that as well. By the same argument, will the government prohibit Spirit from charging more for tickets or abandoning the ULCC model in the name of protecting price sensitive travelers? There is currently an abundance of seats on the market, no shortage of competition, and the election will be over in a couple of months. Regardless of who wins, I don't see either side being preoccupied with one airline going under or trying to justify singling out one airline to prop up. Politicians like to talk, but I don't see action in any way generating enough votes for them to actually care.

True, but at the time they were throwing money at the US auto industry, not just one specific company while the rest of the industry held their heads above water.
If that doesn't describe the government, I don't know what does.
