wonder if that's just for our contract talks or a merger setup?
Yup. And it’s so secretive that he left Spirit years ago, went to Avelo (where he is now) to leave for Frontier, to set up the merger. 🙄

Guy doesn’t even work at Spirit.

Comparison matters, but CASM is a suspect metric. United's CASM for a 777 polaris seat is quite high. Their CASM for a 737 first class seat is high. The relevant comparison would be United to Spirit regular legroom NB coach.

CASM is CASM. It isn't polaris CASM or NB CASM. Its an industry standard that all airlines have agreed to use measuting it the exact same way. Its total OPERATING costs against the TOTAL number of seats. That's because the cost is a cost and a seat mile is a seat mile, whether its a polaris seat or economy.

I get what you're saying, as if each product was stripped out into its own category. In that case the economy CASM isn't really what it appears to be (its much less) because the higher total cost of running a 777 or 787 or boarding meals for First and Premium Plus etc are all distributed among economy seats as well.

Yeah, it doesn’t work like that. CASM is averaged no matter what the class type.

As long as CASM and RASM are calculated the same, they're useful metrics.

Using CASM alone as an apples to apples comparison only works in special cases, such as single class LCC.

But I talk to young people in my family and they’re always looking at Frontier or Spirit first before the legacy’s to try to get a cheap flight. They just need to figure out again how to make a profit selling cheap seats.
my flights have been as full as ever. we just aren't able to charge enough.

Even with bag fees they said it was like one-third of what United was demanding (the only other airline offering nonstop on that route).

What's all this about alpa reps signing new NDAs and days later billing the pilot group for the next four months to fund a merger account? What's the rumor?

According to Halon the SWA merger is about to be announced anyday.
