the unfortunate reason for this is the number of fellow pilots that would fake mental illness so they can sit at home and get paid. It’s not like a broken bone where you have proof. Insurance companies hate mental illness, there is no set timeline for when you are better so they try to limit coverage to a set time regardless of your progress. I have a kid that spend 2 years in a residential psychiatric faculty. I was told insurance would only pay for 3 month, luckily. They paid 18, but that was an anomaly.
we spend 747 Billion dollars a year in this country to keep grandma alive for 6 extra months. We spend nothing on mental health care.
that’s all I have to say about that.

Additionally, liberalism is a metal disease. I’ll give up grandma, if we can use the 747 billion to ‘house’ all the folks with metal illness like we did in the old days.

I used to claim to be the opposite sex, it got me some time off. If I were to use that same trick now, they’d promote me to admiral, or general; try to make me a kids role model. I ain’t got time for that.

most, but not all. Alaska is 65. No carve out for mental or alcohol. Only exception is self inflected injuries resulting in disability and addiction to narcotics. And of course the three war I. There. So reservists make sure you SGLI is up to date!

They get away with that on the premise that the government should take care of you.
I have heard of people trying to go out on disability to get something fixed but getting denied for the benefits once it's made known that the issue was service related. Just sayin...

As long as we're ragging on ltd, I'll add one. Your benefit is based on the average monthly pay for the last 3 months you worked. So if you had some bad months, you know... maybe for whatever reason caused you to go on ltd, you then get 60% of that. Really easy to get screwed, especially when you consider how long the FAA can take to get you back to work. Dont even get me started on the medication list. I've heard of guys who were diagnosed with a condition that is completely managed by medication with no side effects, but isnt approved by the faa. Their only chance to fly again is to get the doctor to say they were misdiagnosed or, if the diagnosis isnt disqualifying, say that they are stable without the medication and pray that the FAA grants a special issuance.
