The plan going forward

Yes they did. Second half of 2020 was their opportunity to pivot. They chose not to. By 2021 they could see what they were doing wasn’t working and chose to just keep doing the same thing instead of actually being visionary. Nearly five full years have gone by without a profit and they have done nothing but continue to sell things for cash. Burning the furniture instead of making change.
They said they always had planned for being a stand alone carrier if the merger(s) failed. If that’s true why wasn’t the switch flipped back in January for change at last. They couldn’t because they never actually had a plan. Now they say they have big changes coming but it seems to me they are still trying to think of changes which is what they should’ve done years ago.

Did they really run it into the ground though? Look at the grand scheme of things over the last 6 years and there was plenty that happened that has got things where they are today. Frankly, this style of business model skates a razor thin line. One or two little hiccups that distrupts the apple cart and it can be catostrophic.

They seem to be defying ‘bankruptcy is certain, Spirit is done’ mantra so maybe they’re earning their pay raise? If they’re steering this ship successfully in a direction that avoids a pilot from recycling their seniority list at another carrier, pay them. Look at Southwest, they just employed a poison pill; great company but in trouble too. Spirit poison pilled at the start of Covid. Relax. If you’re DFW based, go to American. To leave a dumpster to be at the bottom of another dumpster is funny; and then to be waitlisted from the bottom the ‘new’ dumpster is hilarious.

I bet those American guys are so sick of their base reductions, displacements, base closing, and WARN letters. I'm shocked more AA guys aren't applying to NK.

Their pilot group is way too divided, APA sucks, and much like Spirit they have become the "second chance" airline of the legacies by hiring/flowing pilots who traditionally never would have made it to a legacy. Nothing against those pilots, but there will definitely be side effects felt from that later on down the road.
Lots of "well it's better than Envoy/PSA/GoJet" types over there.
In fact AA and NK merging would be kind of fitting...we could be a large b-scale legacy combining our bites of the apple mentality with their 16 different bitter and PO'd pilot groups.

You trashing somebody for leaving here to go to AA or any other airline just makes you look like you have your head deeply buried in the sand.

IMO anyone in the top half of NK's seniority list would be kind of crazy to start over at AA. UA or DL would be much more solid options, but AA? My bet is that they end up falling behind the other legacies quite significantly over the next 10-20 years.

I'll second what Macjet said in a previous post...how many pilots have left AA to come to Spirit? ...and the "much like Spirit they have become the "second chance" airline of the legacies by hiring/flowing pilots who traditionally never would have made it to a legacy" quote is absurd. Tell that to the retired Air Force, Navy and Marine pilots that go there in droves, and go check out Instagram and Tik Tok to see some of the quality DAL and UA hires.
Also, their pilot group is severely disfunctional.
As far as AA pilots coming to Spirit? Of course not, but that doesn't mean AA is head and shoulders above everyone else.
Not trying to start a fight, but I know quite a few south florida based pilots who during this last hiring boom chose to commute to DL/UA over driving to AA in Miami.
