I can’t see the DOJ letting this merger go through. The anti-trust vibe is really present. Could the DOJ force a consolidation of Spirit and Frontier? Spirit isn’t viable as a standalone company, and that is blatantly evident by their inability to make money. While I may not agree with it, if JetBlue and Spirit merge, it will destroy competitiveness in the ULCC segment. A pragmatic approach would be to consolidate F9 and NK. I know it isn’t happening, but if it is a lefty judge, he may block the merger. Then the problem becomes two failing companies. When they fold, there will be even less competition.

it’s not a lefty judge - it’s a Reagan appointed judge that has already leaned pro business.
thank God it’s not up to the DOJ, now it’s up to the judge.

Competiveness in the the ULCC segment? There are like 4 ULCCs and not enough money to make them all profitable. There is literally too much competition. There is not enough completion to the big 4 and this merger would at least give them some. Why make a bunch of little airlines fight for scraps while the big 4 can literally come into any market, lose money on it and crush other airlines. The hey are doing it to spirit as we speak.

I think a business friendly judge from the sane side of politics will allow the merger. That is my opinion. Wow, Reagan appointed? He must be older than the hills!

We need him to stay alive and the govt to stay open long enough to get a decision

someone also needs to mention to the supposedly labor friendly administration that if the DOJ is successful they will be putting about 10,000 union workers out of work

Judge doesn’t have to worry about a thing if the DOJ appointed by a supposed labor friendly administration drops the entire thing.

If jetblue lawyers work like they did today, the doj will have to save face and settle

You think? It’s hard to read a bunch of tweets and figure out how it’s truly going. JetBlue seems to be playing a lot of defense, while the DOJ has been aggressive. Would like to see the opposite.
