JetBlue merger

Read your own post again knowing that JB did attempt to negotiate with the DOJ.
Then maybe look at the last 3 years of the DOJ opposing mergers left and right(and losing repeatedly).
Then go ask yourself if you take them at their word that they want to try and get new case laws in the books. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/0...rgers-00106970
Then ask yourself again why the DOJ is taking this one all the way to court.(not JB). The DOJ just said last month there was “no divestiture” that would remedy this merger. Its political.

Not challenging what you know / heard but I can only go on what I see. Playing the politics card is simply opinion. In which you are certainly entitled too. Im glad we all get to have one. Seriously though, what do you have that is fact based and shows that JBU has made good on all points to satisfy the complaint by the DOJ? I’m sincerely curious. Couldn’t find much but speculation and people throwing around 5th hand information.

Go to American. Miami is junior and you have the option of widebody flying there as well….

The only issue with this is that the DOJ does not approve or allow mergers to happen. The interpretation of the law in question is the judge hearing the case. The FTC and CPA are charged with drafting a legal complaint to initiate a court hearing. They alone cannot block crap. Have you read the original reasons as to why the DOJ had beef with the big three in the first place. Then the resolution to the complaint? They all conceded to what appears to be the satisfaction of DOJ.
Ask yourself why JBU has not done so in this case? Why they’ve wasted all this time waiting for this elusive hearing that seems to never be happening. It’s like they are buying time for something.

JB has made significant divesture commitments, and is proposing to merge and become the FIFTH largest airline in the country. The government has previously settled prior to court to allow the LARGEST airline in the world. And the number 2 and 3. In your own post you stated that the government has previously settled prior to court nearly every proposed airline merger in recent history. The fact that the government will not settle this one, which will create a very small company relatively speaking, really does show how political this is.
You have been opposed to this merger from the beginning, correct me if I'm wrong. So you see ulterior motives on the part of JB, which most others simply do not see.

On the one hand you say the DOJ doesn't allow mergers to happen, but your initial post said that the government settled with virtually all previous airline mergers prior to court date. Maybe I'm missing something, but I think you are only able to see one side of the coin here.
Me thinks you read that wrong. I’m saying that it’s not the DOJs call. They cannot “approve” nor “deny” a merger. The only reason I say that is because people are posting as if they CAN. In which they CANNOT. Make sense?
I’m opposed to simple pilots that don’t live in the world of the 2%, who have something to lose when a case like this is on the line. I support law enforcement all around and don’t play the “they’re just biased against whatever it is that threatens my goals in life” card. Whoever it be that wants to merge, it’s not about me, it’s about the bigger picture. As simple as that.

But you are correct about this being about the judge. And if the Supreme Court actually does reverse it’s precedent if Chevron Deference, perhaps we can rein in some of the stupid things alphabet agencies have been doing for decades now,

I honestly enjoy intelligent debates, but you can't even seem to make sense of your own posts, within your own posts. This DOJ opposition is far more fierce than in previous airline mergers, even though this merger is far less consequential. It is CLEARLY political and ideological. Not in the fact that they brought the case in the first place, that is expected. But in the fact that not only have they not settled, but have openly said they will not settle, that there is no divesture that would make them settle this merger, even though this merger COMBINED will create a small player among giants.

Just because someone’s paranoid doesn’t mean that someone ISN’T out to get them.

He can't have it both ways.

Also, the last annual bid made both of those bases more junior. FLL is already in newhire classes because of it. So I wouldn't say it will be senior, far from it.

The tweet from MSG a few pages ago in this thread (post #352), shows how politically motivated this case is. If politicians actually meant what they are saying, they’d be trying to break up the #1, 2 and 3 airlines that already dominate the industry.
