JetBlue merger

I know those aren’t your words, but the idiocy of that statement is that there is zero guarantee that even Spirit would continue those routes…. They may as well just come out and say a certain % of seat-miles must be unbundled, and re-regulate the whole damned industry….

Government says things like, "sure you have made divestures and agreements but those arent finalized, and even if they were, there are no guarantees that allegiant frontier & other ULCCs will use them in the same way spirit did"
damned if you do damned if you dont for JetBlue/spirit. I'm really curious how them strongly selling unbundled seating for the "conscious consumer" and the DOT condemning such actions is going to play a role.

Whoops, sorry Tranquility. Just read your response.

Reading the pretrial brief that was filed this week by the defendants it is mentioned that Spirit has deferred aircraft deliveries that were scheduled between 2024-2027 in addition to mentioning the forthcoming Q3 large loss.
"Moreover, softening demand for domestic travel, rising costs, and various operational issues have worsened Spirit’s already unprofitable operations since the COVID-19 pandemic (it last turned an operating profit in 2019): Spirit recently estimated its third quarter 2023 operating margin will range between negative 14.5 percent and negative 15.5 percent.49 In light of its current financial condition, among other considerations, Spirit recently deferred a large number of aircraft that it formerly had scheduled for delivery between 2024 and 2027."

This is out of my area of expertise so sorry if it's a silly question. I am seeing Frontier isn't doing much better either. The common advice I am getting is go to a legacy, but the QOL here at Spirit is amazing...so doing interview prep and research on American and United but don't want to leave just yet.

Given the consistent lack of profitability since 2019, as a first year FO that's a couple months out from 2nd year pay at what point should I start to get worried about the financials of Spirit and JetBlue?

Bingo!
The company knows VILs are cheaper than furloughs, as seen by 2020. Sure they would love to get it below 50 hours so why not mention furlough to the MEC a few times to maybe get the hourly leave lower? Meanwhile 120 new pilots in class next month. Seems if furlough was on their horizon those 120 would be in a pool and not packing for FLL.
JBLU offered VILs, I expect the same here. Ted and the crew is only concerned about dragging this company over the line to hand to Robin. He has no long term interest. Remember that.

They’ll be kind enough to supply the NC with all manner of foreboding PowerPoint financials to spook pilots into believing 50 hours is a gift in and of itself.
